Bard casting Proposal!

Expand Bard to 9 casting levels
Edit: The ones in red are my suggestions to finish the transition. I think the healing line makes them too OP still so have omitted for now.

Hey Fox, this looks great to me, in my super humble and ignorant opinion (more power to baaaaaaards) But I would like to ask what is your reasoning behind it? I can think about a few things (permanency, certain PC that require higher spell slot, just the fun of lvl 9 spells, etc).

Several reasons.
1. Ability to use empowered, extended, and maximized spells
2. The spells we would take are generally unused "Illusion/evo" type spells, that's bard territory
3. Recent increase in summoning powers, left bards very limited, this would give them up to Summon IV
4. It opens up a huge doorway to other casting/melee type builds including theurge
5. Bards are really boring sing and stand in backline type caster/singer, this will make them more powerful no doubt, but they still would not eclipse Warlocks/divine types, it would just broaden their appeal

Currently just singers or swordsman, I think it's too nice of a class to limit the potential thus would be a real boon to improve them in this fashion.

Beyond the reasons I listed, the spells I've chosen carefully are not Uber spells by any means.
Currently one spell is buffed for bards to hit something like a max spell. With this all sonic spell could be empowered.

I agree - bards could get a bit more love, this would be interesting if feasible.

Interesting ideas for sure and we will talk it over on our next staff meeting. I think effort is going to be on new content based on player feedback as of late over further class over hauls. We did a ton of class work that was well received but had no long term positive impact on player base. So we have to be careful of where we spend our limited time.

To complete Fox's very interesting idea about having bards casting at level 9, I would like to propose some bard only signature spells to be added or move to those higher levels.

Nixie's Grace reloaded
Caster Level(s): Bard 6
Innate Level: 6
School: Transmutation
Descriptor(s): Water
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Personal
Area of Effect / Target: You
Duration: 1 minutes/level
Save: None
Spell Resistance: No

This potent spell infuses you with powerful fey magic, granting you the ablity to pierce through concealment. The nixie effect cancels CL/2 % conceal

You can't trick a tricker, they say.



Greater Sonic shield
Caster Level(s): Bard 7
Innate Level: 7
School: Evocation
Descriptor(s):
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Personal
Area of Effect / Target: You
Duration: 1 min/level
Save: None
Spell Resistance: No
Fx : Something between Epic mage armor and shield of faith with musical notes
This spell absorbs CL/5 (rounded down) % physical damage.
In addition, anyone who successfully hits you with an attack takes CL/5 D12 sonic damage.

The air around you shifts and shimmers as a field of pure sonic energy forms before you.
This shield repels all attacks with a blast of energy that sends the attacker stumbling backward.
This spell counts for every sonic related powers, like Lyric's Sonic might or Clap of thunder






Ride of the Valkyries
Caster Level(s): Bard 8
Innate Level: 8
School: Evocation
Descriptor(s): Sonic, Cold
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Colossal
Area of Effect / Target: Huge
Duration: 1 round per caster level
Save: Reflex Special
Spell Resistance: No
Fx : Blue burning pitch ?

You conjure up cold napalm and set it ablaze with legendary music.
Creatures in the area are slowed down by the madness of the moving ice.
In addition, if they fail their reflex saving throw they are knocked down for the rest of the round.
Creatures also take 1d6 per caster level in cold damage and sonic damage, half if they pass their saving throw.
This spell counts for every sonic related powers, like Lyric's Sonic might or Clap of thunder



Milil's wrath
Caster Level(s): Bard 9
Innate Level: 9
School: Evocation
Descriptor(s): Sonic, Fire
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Long
Area of Effect / Target: Huge
Duration: 60 seconds
Save: Reflex Special
Spell Resistance: No
Fx : Recycle of Bombardment Fx, which is useless, if I understood some discussions

The area around you is blasted by deafening explosions.
Each round, all enemies within the area of effect take CL D6 points of Fire and Sound damage.
Those who fail a Reflex save vs Fire take an additional CL points of fire damage per caster level for CL/5 rounds.
This spell counts for every sonic related powers, like Lyric's Sonic might or Clap of thunder

I love the idea of adding NEW spells instead of just appropriating spells from another class.

Love the bard ideas, what suggestions for spell progression? Same as Arcane? or carry on at the same sort of sequence?


Also new areas would be nice, or revamped unused areas. Theres one crypt/temple from darkhold that is completely empty, would just need spawns.

And so much unused content at Ur Draxa which is such a waste when its so well done.

Limited time i know, but if areas are there already. got to be quicker to just add baddies!

Anyway great stuff as always

I would do progression like sorcerer if I was to pick.

As far as ur draxa, i can review the content and see what I can do to help bring life to it.
