Discord News channel

I posted a recommendation in discord under the general channel to make a post restricted news channel. The purpose would be to post updates such as commit logs (with links) and new features as they become available since a lot of members do not read the forums regularly. I believe this would help bring visibility to all the hard work our staff is doing. I understand our staff is pretty busy already, so if this would be considered a good idea, I'm willing to maintain it. I suspect KC would be willing to as well, since he posts them to general chat, spell overhaul and Warlock-Thoughts already.

Thoughts?

Hello
While I am agreeing discord is a very live place to read, I am worry about the duplication of the data and truth. Staff has made a great effort to centralize much relevant information on the content library and commit log, and is still perfecting it.
According to my experience, two places to get the information is one too many. I stick to the forum so far.
Therefore iI am weary about it, as I would not be happy at all if one day there was an important information posted on discord but not on forum/CL.

I think the best way to handle this is an automated system that posts news updates from selected Dev threads into a discord news channel.

This has already been done with FaceBook https://www.facebook.com/NWN2RealmsOfTrinity/, and I'm sure there are bots/APIs that would allow for automatic updates from the forums into discord.

Samy, this idea was just to put info posted on the forums on discord, with links to the info. It wasn't meant to replace the forums just raise visibility.

That would serve the same purpose, if anyone knows how to set it up for specific threads.

I'll look into building an exporter that will broadcast updates to our commit threads to all appropriate locations.

The problem is that we don't own the discord channel and the chap who does hasn't been too responsive. Last i spoke to him he was going through a tough time with health issues.

Yeah, we may have to make a new channel to assume ownership of it.

You can backup a discord server if you are an admin and restore it to the new server. It's open source.
