Vice stood there humming an old sailing song while washing mugs as he glanced across the bar to where his niece jessy was wiping down tables. It was unusually slow this evening in the Port of Call, and he couldnt help but wonder if was related to JD's whereabouts, or lack thereof....
When outta nowhere the lower door leading down at the back of the place burst open and a host of bandits and,..and..and orcs?! flooded into the place. Before Vice could react, the bar was suddenly overflowing with the Vermin. Jessy screamed as a group of thugs grabbed her, another group made for Vice himself,...but he was no easy prey like his niece, in his past he had fought aboard the pirate crews of luskan. With a growl and lunge using a heavy mug and the nearest bottle on hand he jumped into the group coming for him. Determined to get to Jessy's side he fought on, but an orc came up in front of him,and a cave troll behind him, last he saw a bandit was behind his niece with a large sack, he tried to scream to her before he lost sight of her to the battle in front of him..............
Out at the fire in town,..it was a quiet evening. A small group of adventurers were gathered round whiling away the time making small talk and chatting of adventure and treasures found. The peacefulness of the evening was split when the front door to The Port of Call slammed open and a small horde of orcs and humans poured forth into town. The orcs formed up in a battle line across the front of the tavern and issued forth a challange to all in the vicinity, while the human group carrying a large squirming sack broke off for the alleys, disappearing into the night.
(((from here i leave it to those who took part to fill in what happened after, from their point of view. I will add in bits from the DM's narrative as things progress. Remeber guys, i have plans for this plotline to help shape some new zones and peices of the new project for RoT II, so heres your chance to help define the world in which you all spend your time. YES your character has the chance to change the world and affect it's surroundings in this story))) edited by -Kama- on 9/13/2009

To the Most Learned Father Hasicor Danali, High Atlar of the Leaves of Learning Temple, Highmoon.
As instructed, I have made my way to the city of Trinity.
On arrival, I presented myself as a wandering bard and cleric of our most wise and powerful Lord Oghma, seeking knowledge and adventure. Many adventurers of varied background travel to and through this city with great frequency, so my presence has not appeared to be of any significance to the inhabitants.
This city has become a battleground between the forces of good and evil. Undead and Demonic forces are in constant conflict with the army of the King, Barrek II, as well as with adventurers who dwell within the city. These dark forces appear to be led by an evil being named Cain. So far , Trinity has managed to resist this onslaught, though from the events described to me, I strongly suspect divine interference. It is possible that one or more deities has taken a personal interest in the fate of Trinity.
I am writing to you now regarding a new and most dire threat that has come to my attention.
As I was discussing the state of the city with some adventurers in the town square, we heard a disturbance from a nearby tavern, the Port of Call, of notorious repute, owned by a JD Kimball. A party of orcs had abducted a barmaid, Jessy, niece of the bartender, Vice. Subsequent pursuit of these orcs led us to to various locations near the city including a troll cave where shamen had been performing a ritual to open some form of gate. We eventually did track the orcs to another system of caves in the orc frontier and were able to rescue the barmaid. In the course of our investigations we learned that the probable cause of the nights events was the possession of a dangerous artifact by the before mentioned JD Kimball. This artifact is a book that serves as the prison for an ancient and powerful being named the Crimson King. The sage who translated the book for JD warned that the most dire consequences would ensue were this being to be released from his imprisonment.
I would strongly advise that we check the Tower of Tomes for any reference to this being and the danger it presents as well as ways to contain and combat it. I will continue to seek this JD and obtain the book before it is too late...
Yours in service to the great and wise Oghma Zelithar, Companion of the Silver String

[Scribblings from the Ahala Chronicles transcribed and posted on the door of JD’s Tavern]
….. “It would be something to see that book used for a seal reinforcement to the weakened barriers surrounding what was once the depths of Iron Claw. Last seen rumors radiate around an old cellar located in what was described as a ‘Pit void of knowing’. I have further located and initiated a review of any and all maps from the Mason’s of Asyria. It has come to my attention that they did not build Trinity but most certainly had a hand in the overall construction of the sewers of Trinity, and outlands to such places as Highcastle before it fell.” ~Chandlier, Adept of the Grey.
….. “Those Red Wizards of Thay, how they bring me such delight. To think I studied with them and still did not know the bounds of their deceit. The Spire of Hate is a wellspring of knowledge in such things and I dare say they shall not venture so far as the depths of Hell. Chandlier could not have possibly had this book in his possession when he fell in the Claw. I think it would have led to two extreme differences in the untimely demise of my student. First being that he would still be alive if he possessed it. Second, they would not be searching for it if they had it already. He must have given it to a trusted colleague or adventurer, or did he die searching for it?” ~XXX
JD,
I’ve gone looking for clues. I’ve left my beloved Chandlier inside your Tavern. If you should need me he is the best way to seek my presence. I think you’ll find his rodent killing skills far superior that the last Cat. Tell your patrons to leave him alone or he might kill more than small rodents.

Gather 'round Lads and Lasses for the chaos and intrigue that have surrounded Trinity have gotten more chaotic and intriging just these last few days.
*Drah'cir rubs his temples and looks out among those present* Just a few days ago my old friend Eddie and I ...with some of Trinity's new ( and old ) arrivals were sharing spirits and tales of courage and glory in the town center. Suddenly the door of The Port of Call exploded off its hinges and men and beasts burst forth challenging all who stood in their way. My New found compatriots and I engaged them at the threshold of the establishment in a quick but heated skirmish. A large contingient of them headed to the northwest ...but a ruckus was still bellowing forth from the Port of Call, so we entered to stem the tide as it were...
After the ensuing carnage had abated all that was left were my compatriots and the tavern "manager" Vice. After a rather lengthy investigation of the premise ( where we were allowed to go)and conversation with Vice..it appeared that his niece Jess was kidnapped by the Orcs and ruffians. Apparently they wanted something Mr.Kimball, the tavern owner, had in his possession ( his possessions and whereabout are still a mystery )and they took Jess as a bargaining chip.
With little more than a desire for adventure ( and to rescue the Fair lass Jess) and slight bloodtrail we wove a path throught the alley's behind Micks and gates of West Trinity to the Old North Rd. Our diligence payed off when we found a rather large contengient of Orcs, Trolls, and Ruffians ( ...yes we found it odd that ruffians were allied with the Orcs and vice versa..) gathered outside an old cavern. We took just a few moments to ascertain weather Jess was among them before engaging the foul brood. I must say that this group of adventurers would have made any General proud. Spells both arcane from Eddie and myself and the divine of Eva Light backed with the bardic inspiration of Velithar.....was a sight to behold...not to mention the shining blades of Matsumura that sliced through the enemies ranks like a tsunami against a grove of saplings....( oh hush Eddie ...its my story)...The battle took us into the caverns where there were 10 fold the combatants that were outside..the carnage was horrific. Once the din of battle was over it was apparent why there was so many and why they fought so hard... A portal ..once functioning , now destroyed. They obviously feared us or what we might bring to the other end of that portal, so they destroyed it. It took some time to search through the caverns and the bodies for the poor lass Jess..but there was no sign of her. What we did find was more disturbing. On an Orc shaman in his full ceremonial regalia that hailed from the hills outside Elvander we found a small scroll of disturbing portent. With a bit of lore and arcane knowledge we discovered the scroll had something to do with an Orc artifact called "The Hand of the Fallen"...Eddie and I remembered a young mage named Katriana (or something like that)had found a tome that had mentioned the Hand and someone called the Crimson King. What new foul beast to plague th Realms was this!! And was this Hand the relic that the orcs wanted to trade Jess for?
But there was still a missing lass to contend with and after a brief discussion we headed off to Elvander. The Orcs that were in this raiding party were of the same tribe that had been harrassing Elvander for some time now.
We found Elvander overrun with the dreaded hill trolls and their Orc masters. As far as we could see no one had survived this latest onslaught. My fellow compatriots bore into them with a fury that rivalled any hell driven storm. The Meteors of hell were nothing compared to the vengence these warriors ravaged upon the vile creatures. After the city was cleared we headed into the hills, the heartland of the beasts, for still there was no sign of Jess..The timeline gets a bit blurry here for we had had countless battles and skirmishes throughout the hills and our endurance had been tested time and time again. None the less our resolve remained steadfast...to rescue Jess and get her home safely. Our trail ended at the entrance to rather large cavern. And with nary a word we began to enter. But before we set one foot inside a small voice said" its sure to be full of traps ..I should go look around" I turned to see a small drow..lightly armored and full of spirit...Pang ..so small and quiet I had almost forgotten her...So with a little inspiration from Velithar and alot of her own courage she helped us through countless traps and ambushes in the infested caverns. I cannot tell you how many Orcs Trolls and Ruffians we fought through those dank rough hewn rock corridors...it seemed to be endless...and after a particularly heated battle with a 2 headed Fell Troll... we heard a female voice yelling out "Hello.. is anyone alive out there?".... not the smartest thing to be yelling out a cell door ..but at the time it was like music to our ears. It was Jess. Alive and well...After a quick how do you do and is everyone all right we decided not to finish clearing the Caverns and to get Jess home. We had little resistance on our way out. It was like paradice to be out in the fresh air again. I took Jess by the hand and activated the Trinity return stone.
Once back in Trinity we returned Jess to her uncle Vice. And even though Vice's gratitude seemed truly genuine he could not shine any more light upon the whereabouts of the elusive Mr. Kimball.
We were worn and tired, but we still had to resolve the issue of the possible threat of this Crimson King. Eddie thought that this Katriana had been a student of the strange mage Detaniel Devermore. We found him perusing the arcane lore in the Magic shop. He wasnt very cooperative till we mentioned the Hand of the Fallen and that the Orcs were seeking it out. He became alarmed and had us tell our tale. He told us of the Tome his apprentice had found and the portent of its pages. He also revealed it was he who had hired JD Kimball to find the Hand and that he had given the original book to Mr. Kimball to help him locate the Hand. Oh what folly! He realized too late the real danger that it presented. He gave me a copy of the Tome to study and help guide us to our next objective.
And what of the mysterious tome? I believe I will have to get some rest first ...make sure my facts are all there you know...

Eddie sits reading his book while the others are talking but he hardly hears a word. One voice, a good friend, stands out. “Ya lose your spells again Eddie?”. He looks to the right and sees Drah. He sighs and replies “well no of course not Err well I’m looking for some now but not like last time”.
Drah quote Suddenly the door of The Port of Call exploded off its hinges and men and beasts burst forth challenging all who stood in their way. My New found compatriots and I engaged them at the threshold of the establishment in a quick but heated skirmish. A large contingient of them headed to the northwest ...but a ruckus was still bellowing forth from the Port of Call, so we entered to stem the tide as it were...
There was such an explosion of activity I went into combat mode. Cast defensive spells and attack not knowing what was happening but knowing I had to react. The thugs from the PoC didn’t seem to be taking our assault as anything they would be backing down from. All were killed and I heard in the distance “Eddie go with into the PoC”, not even thinking, I was on my way. The torrent of battle was already raining down on me as I entered and the overwhelming numbers caused me to call out to my collogues. Soon the battle was over. Orcs and men lay strewn about the PoC floor and a severely wounded Vice speaks of Jess being taken by the mob.

Since childhood I have been groomed to join the ranks of the Nine. I do not remember a time when I did not have a sword in my hands learning the arts of combat and protection. All my life has led up to this moment and finally the time has come for me to take my place as an equal among my bretheren. I had notions of becoming a bodyguard to Royalty or some powerful and important diplomat and that I would show my mettle in battle and prove myself to be worthy of the title that has been given to me. As I stood before the council I could hardly believe my ears when I was told that I was to be sent as an emissary of the Nine to the city of Trinity. Although my outward appearance did not betray my feelings, I was crestfallen. Trinity...a city..if you could call it that, far removed from the intrigue and status of Neverwinter. Why would they send me there? Did I somehow displease the council? Did I have an enemy in the shadows plotting to ruin my career before it began? Almost in reply to my thoughts, Captain Tymerriden spoke. "Matsumura, this is a most grave time. Dark forces are in play and Trinity is the eye of the storm. We cannot ascertain the source of this blight, but it's shadow grows over Trinity with every passing day. You are to conduct your own investigation into the events that are unfolding there and pass along what you know to the council. The proper authorites have been notified of your arrival and you should expect full cooperation from the defenders of Trinity. You are to leave immediately." I snapped to attention, saluted and hurried off to prepare for the trip. I had not been in Trinity for long when I happened upon a band of adventurers enjoying a late afternoon in the city square. Suddenly a band of orcs burst out of a tavern and much to their surprise, they had the poor misfortune of running into us. Many of these vile creatures fell to my sword, but it was the teamwork of the adventurers that saved the day. A fair maiden was kidnapped and we tracked the scum back to their lair to rescue the damsel and dispatch the villans. We discovered that a far more perilous scheme is being plotted by a sinister "Crimson King". I would refer you to the journals of Zelithar, Drah'cir and Eddie for details of this encounter. Hopefully Drah'cir will be able to use his knowledge of Lore to decipher clues from the mysterious tome and we can set out on a path that will lead to this Crison Kings's destruction. It appears I have stepped into a hornets nest and I am eager to prove myself to the Council of Nine.

One late night Eva come to visit the city of trinity, hopping to met her long time friend Pang. apon arriving to the city Eva notice a group of adventurers hangging arround a campfire just north of the dock entrance. Eva approached" hello to all i am Eva a mystic knight of torm" she says with great pride. After breef introduction from the other people there was a loud noise. suddently a bright light appeared arround Eva and she found herself standing in front of torm himself. //i crashed . BE BRAVE AND TRUE YOU ARE IN MY SERVICE NOW. RETURN AND DO YOUR GOD PROVE YOUNG WARRIOR, says Torm. sudently Eva finds herself back in trinity center. She looks arround there seems to be signs of a great battleand something familliar to her. Well there you are Pang. Are you alright what has happen here. after trying with no success to get and answer from anyone in the area. Eva notice that people she seen earlier by the campfire was running into the nearby tavern. Eva desides the answer she is looking for might be there and if not she can atleast get a drink.Once inside the tavern Eva sees Eddie a bard or something she met at the campfire talking to a man by the name of Vice. Vice had a neece that was kidnapped by some bandits and orcs. acording to Vice they came in from the celler took his neece Jess and ran off while other of there group assalted the city to prvide an distraction. Hmmm this what the mess was outside Eva thought to herself. Eva listen to vice talk to eddie. Vice seemed distraut and very emotional about his neece. Dont worry Vice, By the will or Torm I will find and return your neece to you. Eva says with pride. A local wizzard name Drah suggested that we search outside for clues. Once outside the group of adventurers began to gather a much info as possible. looking arround Eva notice a man standing but one of the trinity guild halls and appoached him. Excuse me sir Did you see anything or any one run passed here with a sack or something?? .the Man seemed very nerves about something. He wouldnt answer our questions. Dont worry sir We mean you no harm we just want to know if you seen anything. The man jumps up and runs off. One of the other members of the group a young brash warrior. started running off torward the north. Hmm he must have found something out i better follow him. Once out on north road the group of adventurers runs into a large group of bandits. That must be them. Becareful Jess might be among them make sure you watch what your swinging at says Eva. Of course the young brash warrior dashed right for the group swinging his weapon slashing through them like butter. Reckless Eva thinks to herself. Oh well better back him up. Without a scratch on any of the group. Look ther is a cave there on the right maybe we should check it out but becareful there is no telling what is in there. once in the cave the mighty group was attack by trolls. Heh i can handle this. With the powe of her will Eva unleashes a blast of magic beams of fire from her hands that scrourch the trolls to dust but there were more of them. the group fans out and start killing trolls with the greatest of ease.after fighting there way into the center room Eva Eddie and Drah noticed a strange object in the middle of the room. It appeared to be some sort of a portal device. Eva aske Eddie and Drah if they knew what it was and how it works. figuring those wizzard are always reading books and whatnot if anyone would know Drah would. After the group search the area they found robes and some sort of a scroll. there was a ritual going on here. Eddie who seemed to know much about different things, hmmm i still wonder why he knows so much, said that the scroll and the robes have something to do with a cult that follow the CRIMSON KING. The group deside to comtinue to look for more clues while I watch out for trolls until, there he goes again, the young warrior runs into another cave entrance the lead deeper into the cave. We better go after him before he gets hurt. the group heads down the cave to find more troll and another exit. we better get out of here and start looking for Jess. The only lead we had on jess was that orcs had her oh and there was some sort of an artifact that was wort alot to the orcs. eddie believed the bandits kidnapped Jess to get back. so off to trinity west we go. Once there eddie begins to talk to the guards, by there first name, hmmm who is this eddie really, and finds out that they saw a group headding for the river that on the way to evandar.Hmm and if i recal some of the slain orcs have elvandar markings on them. Well thats the best clue we have. Lets go to elvandar. There they are orc just like the ones in town and bandits also. What in the name or Torm is going on here? Orcs and bandits together? i dont believe it. with great persion the group cute through there enemies. Hmmm all of them were already injuired what is going on here? Well there is no time to find out now Jess is our main priority. The group head into orc land now with fire in there step confident that they are on the right path. after cutting through a few hundred orc they come apon a cave. "this is it the orcs hideout". apon entering Eva suggest that we send in a scout " i dont want to walk into any traps" says Eva. I got it, Eva called apon her little pet Beetle. she sends him down the dark path to spy on the orcs activity. after it return, Pang lets everyone know that she is a scout. about time i almost forgot you where her friend. carefully for the first time the mighty group heads down the path with pang taking lead and disarming traps. while the others killed any orc that moved. Deep within the cave the group finally find Jess. happy to have found her the group checks to see if she is ok the Drah uses his mighty magic and we all find ourselves back in trinity.\\port stones//. We all headed to the tavern to tell Vice the good news. As we promised Vice we have returned Jess to you. Drah begins to ask Vice about the owner of the tavern who apparently is also the head of a bandit clan of some sort, if he knows the werabouts of this man. Vice seems to know more than what he was telling us. Drah suggested we head over the the arcane store to get info on the scroll we found and the Crimson King. I got a bad feeling about this. The wizzard Drah begins speeking to one of cain sorcerers about the scroll. how he know such scum i dont know. The sorrcerer tells us about a tome and gives us a translation of the tome. Well it seems we will have to give the wizzard time to read i will retire for the night. i will take shelter near by and will check in dailly if anything comes up let me know...... edited by Eazze X on 9/19/2009

[Excerpts from a Tieflings journal]
That Tiadra, nobody sits beside her because her staff is pointy.. Pity the damned fool who gets a ribber from that stick. Smart though.
Eddie… Needs to spend more time on himself and less time on that book of his. Worth stealing.
The Drow.. They don’t deserve names. One more to add to the dark alley list. Bad things always happen in dark allies.
Pang.. He a member of the thieves guild? Find out.
Dach-[several scribbles]… What a name, parents must have been Elven. Find out heritage. Possible add to Dark Alley list.
Matsumura … Wears full plate all the time, why… Scarred? From the east? Slaver? Find out.
Mo.. To friendly.
Zelithar.. Always good to have a song .. even if half the songs are in some odd language. Needs to tune instrument.
Group is organizing.. no more time. Moving…
Hilntar: Never been a rogues den. To cold. Only magic moves faster than the rogues guild.. They knew we were coming. To many. JD’s left cigar butts. He’s been here. No book yet. A denizen Kobold. Dark magic. Tracks to the Crypt. Speak to Beshadowed.
Crypts: Legion. Traps. Strong ones. Owe a debt to Matsumura. Nearly killed me. Rogues are definitely in on this one. Possibly a thrall rogue? Very skilled. These traps come from the black-market and the depths of the Iron Claw.. Link? The Ancient was awoken. Been here before, he slept. Took nothing. What is missing? What woke him? A seal. Figurine of a serpent.. Vera, serpents mean Vera. More confirmation of Cain’s Involvement. What does he have to do with the Crimson King?

Letter to the Magistrate and Seers,
Lady it seems your visions were true, and the Crimson King is once again a real threat. I joined a band of adventures seeming of all races, As this threat is greater than any squabble we may have against one another. Upon Arriving I soon discovered that JD a Ex-pirate and now proprietor of Port of Call Tavern has gone Missing and is thought to be in possession of one of the true seals of the Crimson King, We Tracked him too the Frozen waste of Hlintar and into the Hall of Ancients, he was not there but there was Quite a legion waiting for us, Some looked like Vera's henchmen which would suggest Cains involvement what would he have to do with this, I do not know but the Threat is great, I'm gonna stay and help this ragtag team find JD and hopefully Stop the Crimson King from rising again as we all know the danger that threatens us. Will Send updates as I find out more. Hail to the Magistrate and may the knowledge of our seers bring us prosperity.
Sincerely:
Jysiden

As the hour is late and I still feel as frozen as the Hlintar countryside I shall try to make this report brief. We have made little progress in this investigation of the Crimson King. Even with the arrival of some new faces to our ensemble things look grim. Our new arrivals include Taidra Faron, Mo, Sinkla B. Eshra, and Jysidren. Taidra is a mage of no small repute and we have handed the Book over to her. Her knowledge exceeds my own and I welcome her addition to the group. The others I do not know, except Mo who is the head of some guild or such. We began this meeting at the Port of Call, So that Taidra could enlighten us further with the details from the Book and to further inquire into the dealings of JD Kimball. Taidra told us of how this King had been such a terror that good and evil nations gathered together to end his reign. But that they couldnt kill him, and instead imprisoned him in a magical prison that was sealed with mighty symbols which had matching keys or seals if you will. It appears that it is these seals that the forces of evil ( for we still have not determined who exactly we are dealing with)are looking for. The search for JD Kimball was still a priority. His Manager Vice still had no clue to his actual where abouts, but had told him that his business would take him "up north". This bit of information was disturbing because the Book had told of the Crimson King having a stronghold in the north. We began our search for the elusive Mr. Kimball in Hlintar , that frozen northland home to wretched Tundra kobald clans, winter beasts, and barbarians. We arrived at a small hillside village. It appeared to be a fairly peaceful village.....at first. Sinkla had scouted ahead and returned with bad news. There was a small army blocking the pass. It was an odd assortment of kobalds, winter beasts, some kind of armored warriors and undead. Ancient Lichs...so the lore was true, the undead do inhabit this corner of the realms. My compatriots and I waded into these foes with spell and sword. The Lichs unleashed their hellspells and creatures upon us. It was chaos and mayhem that exploded on the field of battle. We battled across the frozen tundra that turned from pristine white to blood red in a matter of minutes. When it was all over we found ourselves on top of a small hillock. On top of this hillock was a small encampment. After a bit of a search we found evidence that Mr. Kimball had been here, but it seems he had made a hasty departure. With no Ranger types in our party we could not determine which way he might of gone. So we continued on our way down the ancient path. We hadnt travelled far when came upon an ancient fortress. Of course it was guarded by the same menagerie of creatures that was guarding the pass. With renewed fevor our stalwart band tore into their ranks. With might and magic we pushed them back ...back into the dank hallways of this ancient fortress. Through great halls, cryptrooms, and libraries we did battle these hellish advesaries of ours. In a great temple area lined with beches we battle some of the most fiendish of these undead priests. Calm had finally fallen over the room and we healed our wounded and searched the bodies for clues. I found evidence on one of the undead priest that he was none other than Ravinum "the Ancient Death Lord" who was said to be the gatekeeper for an ancient evil that was only know as the "the Ancient One". Sure enough there was a large ornate key in his possession.Just holding the key gave me a feeling of dread. Our troops gathered their strength and renewed their wards and spells of protection against the Dark Arts. I opened the great stone door and looked down a long dark passage that had glowing red runes on its floor. At this point all I can say is the light at the end of this tunnels was not the deliverence from peril but a direct route to it. We were met by more Hellspawned warriors and Shadow priests with even greater powers and strength than we had encountered it the whole ancient fortress. And he..or It was there... the Ancient evil that they all fought so hard to defend..swinging his great warmace with deadly accuracy. The din of war raged on in this room for an eternity it seemed. Spells of fire and ice exploded all around. You could hear the hiss of ancient curses being hurled at our heads and hearts. The evil tore at us as to feed on our very souls. But we were battle hardened warriors, powerful priests, couragous Knights, crafty wizzards and spellswords and lets not forget our wiley rogues...heh. We were not to be the sacrifices to this Ancient, but his final doom. The victory was complete...the Ancient had been felled along with his entourage. Nought to do now but find out what signifigance this fortress had. I could not believe our luck..on the Ancient evil himself was a snakelike figure. And to my disbelief Taidra proclaimed that this might be...nay WAS one of the Keys ,to the seals that bound the Crimson King. We returned to the Port of Call later that night. ...we had something now...although I'm not quite sure what, at least we were making some progress. But where were we going next? Who were we really dealing with? Where was JD? And did we stop the threat by finding this key or just bring more danger to us all? And what of the Book and the snake symbol? At least I can rest easy knowing that Matsurmura and Jysidren have pledged their protection to Taidra who carries these artifacts. As I have said the hour is late and I am in great need of some rest. I will renew the search for information with my colleagues in the morn. edited by Joebob on 9/26/2009

I figured that since JD is the current focus of the group and that he has a NPC roll to fill in this story, that i'd do up a bit on his side of the storyline
A clear and stary night out on the frozen tundra. JD sits before a small fire having a nip and a smoke while he awaits the return of the little devil he calls his servant. "Smart li'l bugger that one has been,...learning the trade very fast, and never have to worry about his allegiances" JD thinks to himself. Ha almost misses the sound off to his flank caught up in his thoughs as he was, and nearly too late he was as he sensed the blow coming, No chance to duck it, he rolled with it, taking the blow to his shoulder instead of the back of the head.
The pain in his shoulder left his right arm numb as he rolled to the side in the snow,...already a low oath of profanity issueing forth at his own stupidity for getting caught up in the comforting feel of the cold lands and snow about. getting a knife free with his other hand he called upon the arcane words of covering darkness and shadow to shield him in its embrace. Now it was his attackers turn to mutter oaths and curses, for now JD was in HIS element and the machinations of his profession took over.
Mindless and of single intent, he danced in the darkness of the tundra. A quick slice here, a deadly jab there, never facing his opponents openly or completely free of the safety of the shadows. Finally it was done, and as the heat of sudden combat passed away, he finally noticed the wet and cold running down his arm freely. more than a glancing blow it seemed...wondering why it was that some of his specialised protective gear appeared not to be helping stuant the blood flow was his last thoughts as he dropped down into the snow..... his mind swimming off into oblivian with thoughts of his past................
And so it was with a start that he came back to his senses, Daylight filtering through the towering pine above him, and the warmth of a small carefully tended fire surrounded by a ring of river rocks. His right arm ached, and upon examination he found his shirt had been removed and the shoulder and arm bound. Across the fire another figure stirred, It was his servant boy, the strange and mute little wildland gnome he had found in his travels long ago, that followed him of his own accord. "So it is you i have to thank for my life, little friend" The answer a silent but enthusiastic nod. "I guess were finally even eh?" His servant boy just shrugs and makes a dismissing motion with his hand. Shaking his head, JD is again baffled at the little gnomes reasons for following him, "Well then little friend, do we have any cigars left?" The little gnome smiles and passes over a cigar that he had already lit upon hearing JD stir, and then begins to rumage through a haphazard pack grabbed from the wreckage of their campsite, holding the items up for JD to see before putting them back.
A couple of flasks, a good supply of dried rations,a small stash of cigars, an old strangely bound leather book, and an ornate looking club that consisted of its handle made of an ivory looking bone blending into a polished work of amber containing a mummified hand.
*nodding to the gnome, JD settles back feeling relieved that not all has been for naught or lost* "Well you sure have saved my arse this one out my friend, in more ways than you may possibly understand." Again the dark skinned and tattoed gnome shrugs. "tell me, how long have i been out?" the little gnome takes a piece of charred stick from the fire and scratches 4 lines on the rock nearest it and then points up to the sun. Before JD could ask the next question, his servant takes the stick and makes some rough drawing in the dirt next to the fire. JD nodding in understandment just lays back in the blankets knowing that they are a good safe distance from where they had been.
