Dear RoT players,

Although I played NWN and NWN2 since release, I never tried any PW. For online gaming I was busy with EQ2, but after 6 years I need change

I heard about RoT at recent NWN Podcast and I was hooked immediately. It is impressive that RoT is still going on strong after more than 2 years. I am impressed.

Anyhow I logged in for the first time today and I already have friends! Nevertheless, in order not to take too much time (as time is play ) I will post some questions here. Thank you very much in advance for answers.

1. Is there player driven market? Where is the best place to sell items and loot?
2. Bank is for gold, but is there anywhere where I can store items?
3. I saw it is possible to get house through donation? is it only for guilds, or I can have it for myself? Also, can I store my loot in house somehow?
4. How can I examine PCs to see what class they are and lvl? Is it possible?
5. How long does it take to lvl (in playing hours). I am not looking for fast leveling, just would like to know how many gameplay hours I can get here.
6. I must admit that I am not good at character creation as I played only solo campaign and lots of modules. I was going through nwndb2 builds and saw 2 Warlock builds. Would someone be so kind to check it for me and see what is better suited for Rot? Builds are: http://nwn2db.com/build.php?id=10130&version=1 and http://nwn2db.com/build.php?id=12294&version=1 , or please suggest Warlock build that you thing would be appropriate for RoT.

Well that is it for now. maybe I will need more help, but I am sure community will help me.

Thx again,
Aarionn

1. Not really. Most people give extra items away to new players or sell them in the shops for gold.

2. There are magic bags that will reduce the weight of items. You can also get Bag of Holding which will reduce the weight to 0. Some people even create additional characters to hold all the loot they have hoarded. But, there is no bank type system for storing items.

3. You can get a house for yourself if you make the donation. It does not have to be used for guild purposes.

4. No, you cannot examine PCs in this way.

5. If you are not power leveling and/or being run through everything, there is enough content for many hours of play. There is also the ER system that extends character building past level 30. A lot of people end up creating more characters and trying multiple builds out, which will just multiply the hours of play you can get.

The are several markets throughout the Chapter progressions some of the favorites are Mick's in Trinity Town Center and the Daerulen bazarr

2. Bank is for gold, but is there anywhere where I can store items?
In two places, in your own home (via donation) or in a bag of holding on your character

3. I saw it is possible to get house through donation? is it only for guilds, or I can have it for myself? Also, can I store my loot in house somehow?
You or a guild or your guild can have a house. Yes you can store loot there.

4. How can I examine PCs to see what class they are and lvl? Is it possible?
Other players and enemies will give a challange rating, while this isn't their level, it will give a hint to how you rank to them

5. How long does it take to lvl (in playing hours). I am not looking for fast leveling, just would like to know how many gameplay hours I can get here.
Depending on how you do things you should be easily able to hit ER 1 within about 60-80hrs of gameplay.

Well, there IS a way to examine players. You have to use the arcane spell Shadow Simulacrum (lvl 9) on them. I'd ask them before you do, because you have to go into PVP mode to do so. When you examine the shadow sim you created, it will show you the normal statistics you can see for yourself and any of your henchmen. You won't be able to see their spells, tho'.

That depends heavily on your build, the locations you use and the ratio of party play you do. Once you reach a certain quest of the story, leveling to 30 will be going rather smoothly and fast. Going to 30 should be possible in around 30-40 hours at max, depending on how well you mastered your build.
However, in my experience, serious grinding for ERs with warlocks is a real pain. I have one myself, too, and tried at least 4 or 5 different splits, but she doesn't even come close to the playability of some of my other chars. Don't get me wrong, i don't want to convince you to not play a warlock nor do i want to scare you. I'm just a reeeaaally bad warlock builder, appearently.

Anyway, welcome to the Realms of Trinity. If you ever need help with something, feel free to ask anytime. As a member of the O Guild AND of the RoT community, i'll help as long as it is something i can help you with. Just PM or IG-msg me if you catch me online and need anything ^^.

It is worth pointing out that Shadow Simming another player without prior permission (or not during a PVP match) just to see their build is quite rude and may well result in subsequent chastisement in return

To me this is a low dirty underhanded way of sniping someones build,...and personally, i would outright make that person my new practice dummy for a few weeks.

there are many people that will openly share their build if you ask them about it,..but there are also those who like to keep their builds a mystery to others so the only reason i can see for "simi'ng" them is to steal build details that are not freely given.....

Agreed, You can visit www.NWN2DB.com and if someone has shared their build there, then it is free to look at. Otherwise, just ask for the build and if folks don't mind sharing it, they will let you know.

Well thx all for the tips, but before we get too far making conspiracy theories let me tell you why I asked in a first place about inspecting PCs.

As I mentioned in my first post I am coming from EQ2 where you can inspect every PC and see what race, class, level they are and what type of equipment they have.

I thought the same was obtainable in NWN2 in the same and easy way.

I certainly didn't ask this question to steal someones build...

But thx for info on that matter

Regarding Warlock class, i must say after researching a little and trying to play that class I think I will not go with Warlock...

I always played wizard with 1 or 2 lvl rogue in NWN1 and NWN2, but now that there are epic levels, I just don't know what to play. There are so many combination on nwn2db that my head hurts

I am thinking going with two characters. One would be wizard (wiz/frozen mage/red wiz/Pale Master or so...) and second i would like to play mele character (paladin/?/?/). Can you suggest good build for that?

Thx all for support. Great community and server.

best,
Aarionn

Arcane casters can be tough. You really have to know your build backwards and forwards to be proficient. As far as Paladins, I've seen a few and they can be tough, but I've never played one. I just know they are viable. It all depends on your build I guess.

Ok, let me clarify myself before i get accused for something i don't do. You are right, it IS a method of stealing builds. However, sometimes people do have builds that are not on nwn2db yet but they still want to discuss it with IG with the powerbuilding buddy of his/her trust. In that case, i think it is just a useful method to save a lot of typing and only if both sides are ok with it. Nothing more. The thought that people might abuse this method for underhanded build-stealing never came to my mind.

In the situation where both sides are ok with this, then yeah,..no problem,....but i just wanted to make sure everyone got the point that this is NOT something to just pull as a quick way to scope others chars without permission...

As for the player driven market. Some players will buy items for you at an agreed upon price cuz you van only get soo much out of the shops, and they resell the items for more than you could normally afford. That being said most people would rather trade or just help than buy something.

I wanted to elaborate a little on Paladins from the way I see it:

Paladins are a rather excellent class with K's modifications, there are some areas that are full of Undead and K's Turn Undead on paladins which does d6 divine damage per paladin level is extremely useful for them.

Paladins also, surprisingly, have some useful spells; taking something like Practiced Spell Caster (Paladin) to help extend buffs (because Paladins only get cLvl = 1/2 paladin levels) can be useful for extended trips without resting. You don't even need that high of a Wisdom score to cast, as there are more than enough wisdom enhancing items out there to cast your spells (and DC doesn't matter for the most part, as there is no reason to offensively cast on a Paladin).

The Paladin I use, Zip Etoile, is ranged with a sling and shield and I seem to do well enough, but that's not really the norm. For the most part, I see Paladins as going in one of three main directions (that may or may not overlap):

Physical tanks that can deal a fair amount of damage reliably (full bab) and soak up blows in Full Plate and shields (Tower Shields are useful if you want to mix in something like Fighter or Arcane Knight to grab one). With high saves, they can handle fairly well in that department and they have some fair party buffs that can help out others. If one chooses, one could really pump up on constitution and use the spell "Glory of the Martyr" to gain the feat "Rescue" and just sit and literally tank for the party whilst chugging troll blood (regeneration).

Heavy hitters: this is mostly if one uses Paladin instead of Cleric to obtain turning ability for the use of Epic Divine Might and Divine Shield. This is of course markedly more damage when using a 2h weapon, which sacrifices some defense from the lack of a shield.

Undead killers: Paladins have a pretty righteous ability to kill undead, with Turn undead and a lot of ways for Paladins to dish out some divine damage bonuses on their weapons, they can pretty handily dispatch undead with little effort given an appropriate build.

Just my two cents.
