I'm currently thinking about changing their spell DC stat to Wisdom instead of charisma. This would put both their spells/day and their DC behind a single stat (wisdom) making them better casters (since they don't have wildshape or a companion by default).

It's been suggested that I choose Cha as the single stat to base the class on but this could end up breaking existing SS characters (as they likely have the 19 wisdom needed to cast level 9 spells but they probably don't have the 19 charisma that would be needed for this).

Are there enough SSs running around that giving rebuilds would be a problem for a Cha only approach? Would the Wis only approach give anyone heartburn? Thoughts?

Isn't SS supposed to be some kind of "divine sorcerer" (spontaneous spellcaster etc.)? If so, i'd say it'd make more sense to go all CHA based like the arcane spontaneous casters do.

What about Favored Souls, don't they use 2 attributes for spell casting as well. Plus they are a melee class so strength and con are important as well. This puts them at 4 attributes that are important. Perhaps they should be revamped as well. Wis for SS since they are more about communion with nature (a contemplative endeavor) and Cha for FS since they are more like sorcs in the description of how they get their power. Plus this could kind of please those of us that feel the Herald (bard paladin) is a great build but an impossibility due to alignment restrictions. (I almost have one in the OC and am quite excited because it was quite a bit of work to get my alignment to slowly change enough through RP choices)

I find the wisdom route to be more attractive for monk/sacred fist, intuitive attack/zen archer synergy.
I guess you could have more powerful offensive caster with cha if you took heart warder or you could have a EDM SS much easier.

Either way it would help a class that is greatly under utilized.

Did you ever decide on the, Kaedrin? I am getting ready to ER, and this would be good to know. Personally, I like the idea of Charisma-based.

On his current WiP page for Version 1.41:

RoT still runs 1.40.4, so no changes here yet. But if the PrC is updated here, it depends on whether they will use the optional download or not.

I personally would have preferred CHA as well, but it's too late to restart that discussion now.

The main difference with FS vs spirit shamans is that the SS's get largely useless class abilities, but with their access to cleric spells they tend to make good melee characters (and good characters overall) due to good spells, very useful class abilities (energy resists, basic weapon focus/spec feats, damage reduction), and to top it all off they get all 3 of their saves with a high progression.

Even in pnp id never play a spirit shaman, unless I knew ahead of time the game was going to revolve specifically around dealing with mostly "ghost" type monsters, and even then a cleric's still a better choice. I think they must of payed some crackhead to design the SS because it's no where near as useful or attractive then the FS.
